Charleston Trip 2012

Our friend Jocelyn who has a beautiful home in downtown Charleston graciously lent us her house for the weekend so we could have a vacation and some beach time. We were thrilled and were the ultimate Charleston tourists! We got there on Friday afternoon and immediately went to the market to do a little shopping. Delaney requested this llama but was fine with giving him a hug versus purchasing him.

We didn't have time to do a carriage ride Friday night but it was promised and Delaney got to go pick out the horse she wanted for Saturday. They pointed us towards a baby donkey that was born recently.

Fuzzy video but Maya does her donkey impression at the Carriage Stables down in Charleston. Fuzzy again, and Maya has the tongue action but apparently forgets to make her rooster noise with it. It was exciting to see a live one.

Before heading back to the  house we stopped by the beautiful fountain downtown that just begs for kids to get in and cool off. Delaney was in awe....

...and then hopped right in.

Her skirt left pretty soon which left her with a shirt and bloomers. Free spirit my child is.

Maya was a little nervous but a cute little girl tried to persuade her.

Maya stayed on the outskirts....

....while Delaney had a blast getting soaked.

When we arrived back at the house Maya was definitely ready for dinner even though we hadn't even picked it up yet.

Randy went and picked up delicious pizza form Andolini's where the slices are as big as your head!

Maya has her first taste of a harmonica. And---why is it that there is always Delaney in the background on videos saying "Can I go watch??"----sigh---my child is too obsessed with watching movies. Maybe a future Spielberg?? Maya upgraded to a real harmonica. John Popper, watch out!!
The girls were dressed and ready for the beach on Saturday.

Maya and her pacis....why have one when you can have two?

Delaney raced into the ocean they second we got to Isle of Palms. No fear....

Delaney was a rock star on our trip to IOP. She ran right into the ocean, didn't mind the waves splashing her in the race, and rode the waves up to the beach. I was so proud. She stayed in the water for almost the entire 3 hours we were there!

Maya preferred to sit and play in the sand.

She got a little daring and donned her swimmies but was still skeptical about the ocean.

I truly have the silliest child in the world. She is like a miniature Sumo wrestler.
Maybe the goggles would help?

We took  a little swimming break to eat PB&J and have some chips.

Beach posing

Zombie beach pose??

The pizza that never ends made it to the beach.

PB& J face

Before leaving the beach for the day the girls went together to wash their feet off.

And of course play in the sand a little more.

One of the best things about going to Isle of Palms is the Ben and Jerrys that is right there. It is becoming a Roberts Isle of Palms tradition.

After we got home and showered and bathed we borrowed Jocelyn's son Elvin's "scooter". Is that what these things are called? The girls loved riding with their daddy.
Randy took Delaney for a spin on a scooter (is that what you call this thing?) while we were in Charleston. Maya's turn on the "scooter".

While in Charleston, Delaney spent most of her time at Jocelyn's house on the keyboard in the living room jammin'. Maya would go in briefly and then entertain herself with various Elvin toys such as these binoculars.
We went out to the water downtown to walk around before meeting Renee and Jack for dinner. Pretty good family pic I think!!

It was a VERY long wait at Fleet's Landing for dinner and the girls entertained themselves by climbing underneath chairs. Next time...reservations would be good. :)

The wait was finally over---Delaney got to meet Sir Lancelot and then ride on the carriage. She was so excited! I think the horse's real name was Irvin but we didn't tell Delaney.

Delaney loved the carriage ride and I think she really listened!!

Even though Maya had become quite fussy after a very long dinner she was perfect on the carriage ride and cuddled with her mommy and daddy.
